Let’s talk about sex. Sexual ethics, that is. Pastor Angie McCarty, who in her second year of Doctoral Studies at Saint Paul School of Theology wants to know, “When was the last time you heard a sex positive message from your church?” Instead of shame-based teaching, prominent in the 90s with the purity movement, the church has the opportunity to teach from scripture about the very good gift of sexuality. Instead of the air of silence about sexuality, let’s talk about the original sense of sex positivity the bible offers.
Rev. Angie McCarty serves on staff at Church of the Resurrection as Pastor of Crossroads Ministry and Building Better Grandparents, in addition to becoming the Pastor of Spring Hill United Methodist Church this summer. She and her husband have a blended family of six children with an age span of ten years between the oldest and youngest. Angie is an ordained United Methodist Elder – having served in the Tucson area from 1999-2017. She earned a Master of Divinity degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, a Bachelor of Social Work degree at Arizona State University, and is currently in the Doctor of Ministry program at Saint Paul School of Theology.
